The Police Department has reviewed the current promotional process outlined in the PBA contract and have determined that moving to an In-Basket exercise will better serve the depatrment's needs. The current process involves using a traditional textbook to generate questions and having the candidates take an examination. The In-Basket approach provides practical work samples, requiring the candidates to solve routine, realistic and complex problems that they would regularly meet on the job, giving the raters an opportunity to determine the candidates' readiness for promotion.
